Working Dogs

We are committed to providing for the unique needs of working dogs and their handlers.
The most frequent problem that working canines experience are dental fractures.

Although fractures are the most common problem, working canines are not excluded from developing periodontal disease.

We always prefer an in-person exam, but we do offer virtual video chat consultations. We understand that not every working dog is compliant with an in-person oral exam and we know how important the handler's time is, especially those that are coming from a distance. (For these appointments, full-mouth oral photographs are required). Our regular in-person dental consultations are also an option for working canines who are amenable to awake oral examination.

Consultation

Anxiety medications can be used for the consultation to help things run smoother for everyone, including the working dog. We will be prescribing anxiety medications pre-surgically to reduce patient stress when separated from their handler.

On the procedure day, we often ask handlers to remain present until their dog has received their pre-operative sedation.  Post-operatively, recovery time can vary depending on the procedure performed. Our goal is to get the patient back to work as soon as possible.
